Becoming a pharmacy technician is a noble career choice. If you are not ready to take the step to being a pharmacist, or a simply happy to remain an assistant, being a pharmacist assistant will provide you with a role that encompasses many different tasks on a daily basis. You will also have considerably more contact with the general public than a pharmacist usually does, as you are the person to dispense the medication after the pharmacist has made it up or approved it.
The pharmacy technician job description is varied. Some of the tasks that a pharmacy assistant may be required to do include:
- dispensing medication under the direction of a pharmacist.
- ordering stock for a store or department
- maintaining stock levels
- performing store shelf duties such as labelling and stock rotation
- medicine preparation
- answering queries and concerns from customers
- liaising with other health care professionals
As you can see, a pharmacist tech undertakes many of the roles of a retail assistant but with the added responsibility of having access to a wide range of prescription and over the counter medication. If you have an interest in health then a pharmacy assistant career is a wonderful choice for you.
